I am reading along in the Greek (your book) and hoping to learn some of it by way of immersion, much as one might when taking a holiday overseas.
It is very satisfying to start recognising certain words and epithets and my reading (ability to follow you in the Greek text) becomes more fluent. The language rushes under the bow of my ship; most of it a bottomless mystery, but then a familiar bird appears, a fish, a dolphin, islands and perhaps even a rare glimpse of the coast.
Where I am able, I take a sneak peek at the English text running ahead, like looking for familiar landmarks on a map.
