Discover more from Singing Homer
Dear all,
we’re halfway through the Odyssey in our text and translation! Now available on Amazon is part 3, ‘Apologoi 9-12’. These are the tales of Odysseus’ wanderings, his adventure with the Cyclops, Circe, the Sirens, Scylla and Charybdis and more. They were once called the ‘the apologos of Alcinous’, deferring to the king of the Phaeacians, who was the principal male in the audience for the first telling of the Odyssey—the first first-person epic.
The recording project is on hiatus for now, but I’ll be back singing Homer. It is far the best thing that can be done for this world, and no, I don’t mean just by me. For now my energy is focused on producing these world-changing Greek texts for students and supplying them my original translation, ‘A literal impression of Homer’s Odyssey in linear English prose, by someone who’s actually heard the original.’ Do check them out! Take a drink of Homer’s inspiration. https://a.co/d/4jck91D, https://a.co/d/6TOKHmS, https://a.co/d/6SiCpaB.
All six of these volumes will be distributed free to paid subscribers of this substack. Be sure to send me your postal address if you’re in reach of Amazon. I’ve already sent books to Australia!
